7-11 scratching off Best Buy? dates on Soylent bottles. from r/soylent
“Brick and mortar” retail sales bring a whole new set of problems. In the linked Reddit thread, vigilant Soylent buyers report examples of 7-11 stores deliberately scratching off the “best by” date on bottles of Soylent — presumably because the product wasn’t moving and the store manager wanted to keep them on the shelf longer.
What makes a store reluctant to return an outdated product? Do the policies of the 7-11 chain penalize the franchise owner? Or is it Soylent’s return policy that needs revision? All such contractual issues are out of the sight of consumers. But this brings home how much more complicated the retail world is, compared to direct maker-to-user online sales.
