You can usually get Soylent Cacao for a not unpalatable $1.82, if you commit to a subscription that drops to $1,50, but Soylent have been teasing a not very secret upcoming big format of Cacao – the bucket, and that brings the price all the way down to $1 a meal!
This format was first available with Soylent Original, with Rob Rhinehart waxing lyrical about how $1 meals had been the longtime goal he’d hand in mind right from the early days of Soylent.
In a quote announcing it his pride in finally achieving this feat shines through.
From the very first days of Soylent I had a simple goal in my mind: sell a nutritious meal for $1. I knew the impact would be enormous. I dreamed of no longer having to sacrifice convenience and cost for health. And I knew it would be possible with the right engineering.
…
This was an incredible team effort. I would like to thank all the employees, board members, and vendors that I frustrated with this demand, especially Demir Vangelov our, indefatigable CEO. It was all for the customers. And I would like to thank the customers for supporting us and sticking with us through all the years and all the adventures. There are many more to come.
People were hyped, lots were ordered and then it disappeared, seemingly a limited run the product page turned into 404 not found.
Quite a few people were disappointed, but now it’s back, in Cacao, and whilst it’s almost certainly another limited run; at $1 a meal if you like chocolate you can’t really say no.
